About Us

Robert Colao is the founder and President of radiusIP®, Inc.  He is currently also the Chief Licensing Executive for SIPCO, LLC and IP Co, LLC, and is responsible for the overall licensing efforts and business aspects of the ESSENTIAL WIRELESS MESH™ portfolio/licensing program including negotiations, business development and direction of the licensing team.  Bob is a member of the Executive Advisors Network (XAN) for Columbia Technology Ventures (CTV) at Columbia University, working with entrepreneurs and inventors to facilitate the transfer of research innovations from the lab to the market, as well as supporting start-up ventures; and previously served as an Executive in Residence (2013-2014 academic year) for the CTV at Columbia University. Bob presently serves as an Advisory Board Member for BWG Strategy LLC, which is an invite-only network for senior executives across technology, media and telecom.  As Director of Outbound Patent Licensing for Nokia Inc., he led Nokia’s Global Outbound Patent Licensing organization and activities from 2008 to 2012.  Upon first joining Nokia as Director of Patent Licensing, Bob formulated and directed the business development of new opportunities expanding the licensing and monetization of the Nokia patent portfolio beyond the mobile handset space.  Additionally, he drove the IP elements of numerous Nokia M&A activities (e.g. joint ventures and divestitures), which included the divestiture of Nokia’s wireless modem business.  From 2000 to 2008, Bob was with IBM’s Corporate Intellectual Property Licensing organization and held the position of Director of International Licensing.  His responsibilities at IBM included: the licensing of patents, technology and copyrights; IP related M&A (divestiture) activities and negotiations; patent pool participation (DVD-6C); as well as leading and establishing IBM’s patent sales process.  Prior to 2000, Bob held management positions at IBM which included: hardware and software development in high performance computing; marketing & business development; and strategy & planning.  Bob holds a BS/MS in Electrical Engineering from Union College, as well as an MBA.  https://www.linkedin.com/in/robert-colao-71642b5

Robert Chao joined radiusIP® in 2016 as Senior Executive Consultant, and is a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP).  Robert previously held (from 2013 to 2015) the position of General Manager at Transpacific IP Group Limited, and continues to act as a part-time executive consultant to Transpacific.  While at Infineon Technologies AG (from 2008 to 2013), his responsibilities in the Infineon IP Licensing organization included international assignments in Munich and Singapore where he led and closed IP transaction and licensing deals in Europe, Asia and the US. Robert also held positions (from 1998 to 2008) in the IBM Corporate Intellectual Property Licensing organization and in IBM’s Microelectronics Division Technology Licensing organization. During his extensive career as an IP professional, his responsibilities and achievements have included: the licensing of technology and patents; IP related divestiture; as well as patent transactions. Robert has worked for more than 35 years in the electronics industry, where he held technical and management positions in semiconductor manufacturing process; packaging; printed circuit board manufacturing and assembly process; laser transceiver and fiber optics. In addition, he has worked in headquarters functions such as planning, competitive analysis, procurement strategy, supplier management and business divestiture. Robert holds a MS in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University, a MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Taiwan.
